WHAT ARE PARABENS?
Quite simply, parabens are chemical preservatives that help beauty products increase their shelf life. Common parabens are methylparaben, propylparaben and butylparaben.
WHY SHOULD I BE CONCERNED ABOUT PARABENS?
Parabens are believed to mimic the body’s natural hormone, estrogen, possibly interfering with estrogen balance and acting as endocrine disruptors. According to research, there could be a link between certain parabens and breast cancer cell growth with long-term exposure. Additionally, parabens can cause allergic reactions, like irritation, hives and redness.

WHAT ARE SULFATES?
Sulfates are surfactants, a chemical compound that enables you to wash away dirt, product buildup, pollution, oils, and general grime easily due to their magnetic ability to loosen the surface tension between liquids and solids. They also create that foamy lather that’s become ubiquitous with shampoos. The most common sulfates used in hair care are sodium lauryl sulfate and sodium laureth sulfate.
WHY SHOULD I BE CONCERNED ABOUT SULFATES?
Sulfates are detergents: They can strip away all those bad oils and grime extremely well. But they also tend to strip away your hair’s healthy natural oils, which can lead to dry, brittle and/or frizzy hair. That dazzling color you have? Sulfates can potentially fade that, too. For those with sensitive skin, sulfates can cause irritation or acne around the hairline.
