PRIDE IS ALL ABOUT LOVE
This Pride Month, we’re celebrating LOVE! For Becker and his husband, Zim, they’ve created a lasting bond in life as well as in the salon that’s built on a loving relationship.
Zim, who also manages Becker Chicaiza Salon and the BE CHIC brand, met Becker the traditional way: through a pair of Becker’s spiked platform shoes! If you know Becker, you know his shoes: The higher the heal, the closer to perfection.
Here’s how the fated story goes: Zim was crossing a packed restaurant to meet a “potential husband,” tripped over Becker’s spiked shoe, fell, and, from the floor, blabbered, “I’m so sorry!”
To which Becker haughtily replied, “I’m not.”
That was it. Call it serendipity. Call it love at first sight. Whatever it was, they were bonded from that moment forward.
Today they bring this bond to the forefront of their successful businesses. Here, they reflect on their special bond and Pride for PRIDE MONTH.
Q: What’s working together like—both the rewards and the challenges?
Zim: I love building with my partner and seeing our baby, BE CHIC Hair Care, help others on their hair journey. It can be challenging when I want to order take-out versus eating leftovers Becker cooked the night before!
Becker: Working together is really more beneficial versus challenging. We put our love together to grow the business and our BE CHIC products. I’d have to say the biggest challenge is keeping my kisses from him while working!
Q: How did Zim help grow the business?
Becker: When I met my husband, I felt like a diamond in the rough. He polished and shined me up. He inspired me to create more and he took my brand worldwide with social media.
Zim: Honestly, I used love as fuel.
Q: What does Pride and love mean to each of you?
Zim: This is the definition of BE YOU, BE CHIC. Self-love is a necessity—and be proud of it! Create a love you want to be proud of—that can be work, relationship with self and others, or whatever you want it to be. Attention is the purest form of love. #BeginWithYourHair
Becker: For me, Pride and love is a mixture of happiness, emotion, having a good heart, being generous, and having faith.
